The Parent Education Group promotes two research-based, educational products that parents and children can watch in the privacy of their homes and work with at their own pace.  Both products can be kept and reviewed for use at a later time after any educational requirements are fulfilled.

KidCare for Co-Parents

Kidcare for Co-Parents is a multimedia, interactive DVD program for parents that can be used with a DVD player on either a personal computer or a television screen.  This program is designed to educate parents about the effects of divorce on the family.  Developed through extensive research, the four hour course includes 19 modules related to Adult Transition, Kids' View, Parenting, Co-Parenting, Dating and Remarriage, and Unsafe Family Situations.

Check with your local Parent Education coordinator to see if it fulfills the court's requirement.
 

KidCare for Young Children

 

KidCare for Young Children is a multimedia, interactive CD product that can be used on any personal computer.  It is designed for children between the ages of 5 and 9 whose parents are going through a seperation or divorce.  Using a fun, age-appropriate format, the program attempts to teach children the skills needed to cope with the changes in their family as successfully as possible.  Children assume the role of an apprentice to Hank - a lovable SuperHero who helps kids from all around the world "deal with changes, solve problems, and get along better with their families."  In 10 missions, Hank and his apprentice try to help other kids whose parents are getting a divorce figure out the best way to cope with common problems such as understanding what divorce really means, being sad, missing a parent, and talking with friends and family about their thoughts and feelings.  By helping other kids, children learn to help themselves.

Parents Helping Kids Cope with Divorce This 90-minute, professionally-produced DVD-R is an engaging and educational video with live interviews covering all of the major daily challenges of parenting after divorce or family separation. It walks parents through the family's transition including children's adjustment to the divorce. It covers communication issues, problem-solving, high-conflict situations and distress signals. It also addresses the challenges of dating and remarriage (such as negotiating new roles) and how to manage unsafe family situations including substance abuse, domestic violence and child abuse. Adapted from KidCare for Co-Parents, which was funded by a grant from the National Institute of Drug Abuse.
